Mission Statement
Our mission is to enhance the experience of our student-athletes by providing a safe and healthy environment for practice and competition. We seek to provide the highest level of rehabilitation and evaluation techniques available in sports medicine. Overall Carondelet Sports Medicine is dedicated to the health and wellness of all our student-athletes.Â
Cannon Wellness Center Information
The Cannon Wellness Center provides a safe and supportive space for students to prioritize their social emotional health and well-being. The Carondelet wellness counseling team offers individual (short-term) and group counseling support, community support referrals, wellness education and programming, art therapy activities, and space for telehealth appointments. Any student-athletes seeking access to a wellness counselor is urged to ask for a referral from an athletic trainer or coach.
Concussions
Nationwide data continues to show that many catastrophic head injuries are a direct result of injured athletes returning to play too soon, not having fully recovered from the first head injury. Â Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control reports that approximately 3 million sports and recreational concussion occur every year. California law mandates that all coaches must receive training on concussions. All Carondelet coaches have completed the CIF Concussion course prior to coaching. California law also mandates that all CIF member schools must comply with the following: Â On a yearly basis, a concussion and head injury information sheet shall be signed and returned by the athlete and the athlete's parent or guardian
before the athlete's initiating practice or competition.

CIF Return to Play Protocol
Medical science and concussion care experts have found that a concussed athlete must take a gradual and progressive, stage-by-stage, step by step return to practice under medical supervision to minimize risks and allow the brain to properly recover.Â
A.B. 2127 and CIF Bylaws mandated a MINIMUM timeline, but medical experts recognize that many adolescent concussion patients may take much longer to recover. Â Always be cautious as returning to practice and play too quickly may have catastrophic consequences.
