CONCORD, CA, September 24, 2025—Carondelet and De La Salle High Schools announced the appointment of Coach Terrell Ward as the Director of Track and Field. The collaborative initiative reflects our commitment to providing student-athletes with the very best coaching, resources, and opportunities for growth. While each school will compete under its respective school name, this new title illustrates both schools' commitment to having a director who oversees a joint program.Â
A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School ('75) and San Diego State University ('80), Ward brings a wealth of coaching experience. Since 2004, Ward has been an assistant coach on the De La Salle and Carondelet's track teams and has helped elevate the program to new heights. Most recently, the Spartans have won four straight NCS Meet of Champions Championships. Ward has also served as a football coach for the Spartans from 2000-2015.Â
Ward has been a fixture on Winton Drive for many years as he is dad to two De La Salle grads, TJ ('04) and Terron ('09), and daughter, Tierra (attended Carondelet from 2003-2004).
According to De La Salle's Vice President for Athletics Leo Lopoz, Coach Ward understands what it means to be a student-athlete. "Terrell brings tremendous passion and a love for track and field and has extensive experience in all aspects," said Lopoz. "He exemplifies what we seek in our next coach; his personal values and beliefs reflect those of our school, and we believe he will further build upon a successful tradition for the program." Similarly, Jennifer Reinwald, Carondelet's Principal for Student Life and Mission, shared, "Coach Ward is passionate about the sport of track and field, and deeply cares about the student-athletes. He has been an integral part of our Carondelet and De La Salle communities for over 25 years, and we are excited for him to continue the tradition of heart, faith, courage, and excellence on and off the track."
Terrell said, "I'm extremely honored to continue the philosophy and legacy of our beloved coach, brother, and friend John Harvey. For the last 18 years, we have been committed to developing a collegiate and National Level track and field program. This coming season will be no different as we will push our student-athletes to become the best version of themselves as possible."
Together, we look forward to Coach Ward's leadership reflecting the values of both schools and setting a strong foundation for continued success.
